Bud

Terms of Service

Last updated June 2026

The deal

Bud is an iPhone app made by Shreyas Kalyanpad. By using Bud you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. These terms work alongside our Privacy Policy.

Your account

You sign up with an email address, Apple ID, or Google account. Keep your account credentials safe. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else got in.

You can delete your account at any time from Account → Reset or Delete → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.

What you can do with Bud

Use Bud to track your own spending, set budgets, run splits with friends, and chat with Buddy. Use it for personal purposes, on devices you own. Don't reverse-engineer the app, scrape its services, abuse the AI quota with automated tools, or use Bud to break the law or anyone else's rights.

Bud Plus subscriptions

Bud Plus is an auto-renewable subscription managed through Apple via the App Store. Two billing periods are available:

Prices are in US dollars; equivalent local-currency pricing is set by Apple per region. The price displayed inside the app at the point of purchase is the price you'll be charged.

Auto-renewal. Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your Apple ID will be charged the renewal amount within 24 hours of the period's end.

Managing or cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, not immediately. You keep Plus access through the rest of the period you've already paid for, and your next renewal is skipped.

No refunds for partial periods. We do not issue refunds for partial billing periods, mid-period cancellations, or unused time on an active subscription. Once a month or year is paid, that period is yours regardless of whether you continue using the app. Refund requests, if any, go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com under the App Store's own refund policy. Whether to grant a refund is entirely Apple's decision; we do not process refunds directly and cannot reverse a renewal on our side.

Coupons and promo codes. Coupons issued by Bud apply to the first billing period only. After the first period ends, the subscription renews at the standard price shown above. Coupons cannot be combined and have no cash value.

Free tier. Bud's free tier includes 15 AI credits per month and the full core experience (manual entry, splits, budgets, recurring, charts, notifications). The size of the free credit allowance may change; we'll notify you in-app at least 14 days before any reduction.

Splits and shared data

When you create or join a Split, the other people in your group can see the bill amount, who paid, and who owes what for that split. If you don't want someone to see a bill, don't add them to it. We don't share splits outside the people you invited.

Buddy AI and accuracy

Buddy is an AI assistant powered by Google's Gemini. It does its best, but it can be wrong. Don't treat Buddy's answers, insights, or category suggestions as financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. You're still the one in charge of your money and your records. We're not liable for decisions you make based on what Bud or Buddy shows you.

Service availability

We aim for Bud to be reliable, but we can't promise 100% uptime, especially for backend-dependent features like split sync, Buddy chat, and push notifications. We may need to take parts of the service offline for maintenance.

Liability

Bud is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim related to your use of Bud is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim or (b) US $50. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

Termination

You can stop using Bud and delete your account at any time from inside the app. We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service, attempt to harm other users, or violate these terms. If we terminate your account, we'll give you a chance to export your data unless the termination is for severe abuse.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts of San Francisco County, California.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we do, we'll post the new version with a fresh date. Material changes get an in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance of the new terms.
